I'm new on this Forum.

I'm from Montreal, and my father has a bit of the manuscripts used for the first genealogical research.

It seems the entire family tree originates from France, possibly Saint-Servan near Saint-Malo (Bretagne). The first Saindon who crossed the Atlantic is Michel. All branches derive from this main ancestor, although it would be possible to have alternate branches that would pop up from other French immigrants who arrived at a later date.

Michel Saindon settled in Acadia (New Brunswick) and aided the colonial administration. He use to own the 'Saindon island' but the name was changed and the location lost due the British conquest of Acadia. Thus, we might have been Lords. We certainly did had connection with the colonial military leaders.

Michel fled to Quebec with his family, while Acadians were deported to Louisiana where they became 'Cadians' or 'Cajuns'. In Cacouna, Michel was Bailli (Bailif) to one of the feudal lords. That's the only title I have found so far. His house currently still stands and is in possession of Saindon descendants.

To this date, a Saindon historical society exists in Sillery (Quebec) but I have yet to check up on it. We have now our Armories, but they aren't the original. They are basically a green shield, with a gold chevron. A fleur-de-lys indicates our french origins, while a star represents Michel's passage in Acadia. The scribe's tool are featured to represent Michel's good education. Hermine, the motif of Bretagne, is also present. Again, these are not the original, but those acknowledged currently by this Society. Not that I complain.

I urge the family to get their networking skills going and unify as soon as possible. If the Bush or Kennedys can rise to position of power through nepotism, I don't see why we shouldn't reclaim the 'island of Michel'. And hell, we could finally have peope write and pronounce our Name correctly. And we could also protect our legacy of speaking French.

Anyway, that's it for today. You may contact me at, especially if you posess info on Saindons in France or the original armories.
