Hi, John. Your great-grandmother, Mary Saladin Davis, and my grandmother, Ada Saladin Hebert, were sisters. I knew your grandparents quite well. I can give you the following info: John Saladin was the son of Matthias Saladin, who was born in Baden, Germany, and Caroline Gassman, who was born about 1843 in Baden, Germany. Mathias and Caroline emigrated to the United States and settled in Sandusky, Ohio, where they were married about 1864. They had two sons, John and Charles. John was born in Sandusky,, Erie County, Ohio, on July 22, 1865. Matthias operated a general store, tavern, and inn. John moved to the Whitehall-Granville, New York area, where he married Josephine Van Guilder. Their children that I know of are Mary and Ada, Raymond, who died in 2000, and Lillian, still living. There were several children in the family who were all older, but Aunt Lil says she didn't know them, and doesn't even know their names. Aunt Lil can be contacted by phone at (518)499-0787, or by mail at the following address:
       Miss Lillian Saladin
       19 Rock Ave.
       Whitehall, NY 12887

Uncle Ray’s son, Raymond, has done quite a bit of research on the family lines. He can be contacted by mail at:
       Raymond E. Saladin
       6549 River Road
       Fort Edward, NY 12828
If I can be of any more assistance, please feel free to contact me.
