What you describe is not the crest that I was
given at the age of 12 or so. At the top of the shield is a crown of 5 "spikes" topped a with round ball like or jewel like.
the shield is divided into quarters..
however, as I look at the shield, there is from lower left to upper right a ribbon like marking. the upper right and lower left are similar as are the upper left and lower right. the upper right and the lower left have a rectangle in the middle of that quarter surrounded by a series of smaller
rectangles 3 on top and bottom, 4 on the left and right of the quadrant.. The upper left and lower right sides of the quadrant is more on the square side designs but the placement is the same... square in middle surrounded by the 3 smaller squares on top and bottom, and by 4 smaller squares on the side..
Was told that the ribbon band was in purple, and the alternating upper left/lower right had a gold background, where as the upper right/lower left were in silver... the corresponding rectangles are gold on silver/silver on gold... and the smaller units were possibly jewels...
The first 5 names on this genealogical chart given me some 50 years ago... are located in the area of Auvergne France and nobility...
Have read about Salazar meaning Old Palace..
the name is Basque in origin..
Can anyone add to this?
