The most famous Salazar in the Philippines was the Bishop of these islands Domingo de Salazar. He was born in La Rioja in 1512 and died in Madrid 4th December 1594. He arrived in Manilla with his new posting as Bishop in 1581 and was a restless champion of the filipino. He campaigned for better treatment of the indiginents and returned from Spain as the first archbishop of Manilla.
He is buried in the church of Santo Tomas in Madrid where his tomb can still be seen to this day.

Whether he bought out family to the Philippines, such as a brother, I cannot say
but obviously he would have had no direct descendants since he was a priest. I would not be surprised if various Filipino families adopted the name Salazar in honour of the good work he did there.
