Samuel Walter Hill of Springfield, Virginia, son of Walter and Lutie Hill, passed away 25 February 2009. Born and raised in eastern Kentucky, “Sam” completed both bachelors and masters degrees in Richmond at Eastern Kentucky University. Following his education, “Walt” entered the Army and completed his rotary wing pilot training at Fort Rucker, Alabama. He retired from Fort Belvoir as a Major after 20 years on active duty stationed in Germany, Texas, California, and Korea. His passion for history stayed with him throughout his life. He is survived by his wife Wendy of Springfield, her sister Sandy and brother-in-law Jim Ritter, and their children Christopher and Timothy and their wives Karen and Laura Ritter.

A memorial service with military honors will be held in Berea, Kentucky at the Berea Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 20, 2009 with Rev. J. Randolph Osborne officiating. Davis and Powell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. www.davisandpowellfuneralhome.com
