Thank you! When did John m. Lucy Haines? When and where was she b., d.? Who were her parents? Do you know when and where John's children d.? Whom they married, when and where?
John Solway's grandparents, John Solway and Grace Spiller, lived in Whitford Village, Shute, Devon, in 1841 (and c1831-1840 in Dalwood); their son George was on the census there with them. Whitford is west of the river Axe, 1 1/2 miles from Shute and about 4 miles from the English Channel. The Salways there go back to 1 July 1648, when Joan Hewet of Whitford Manor, Shute, widow, leased Blackyeat, Moorley, apparently the names of farms, to (her son-in-law, Rev.) John Salway of Whitchurch, Dorset, his wife Joan and son John. (See the Rev. John Salway message in this forum.)John's parents, George Salway and Rachel Farrant, were living in Whitford in 1861, when their household included son John. Rachel was buried at Whitford 27 Mar 1895. The John Solway b. c1854 no doubt considered Whitford home.
Is Ashburton part of Christchurch? Did John d. in Ashburton? Were his children b. there or in Christchurch?
