Correction of Ben. F. Salyards

I stated in my previous posting that Benjamin Franklin Salyards was buried in Virginia during the Civil War. Unfortunately, I confused him with a Pennsylvania Civil War soldier, Napoleon Bonaparte Salyards who is buried in Virginia. I have looked at Florence McBride Salyards' book, HISTORY OF EDWARD SALYARDS, HIS DESCENDANTS, ETC and found the following information:

Benjamin F. enlisted in an Ohio Infantry unit on 11 November 1861 along with his father, William H.H. Salyards. He was wounded on 19 December 1864 near Fort Allister which would be near present-day Hardeeville, South Carolina. This is just north of Savannah, Georgia. He died on 31 January 1865 at Beaufort, SC which is near the present-day US Marine Training Base, Parris, Island. I don't know where Benjamin is buried.

Looking at some history of the Civil War, this southern part of South Carolina is just about where Gen. William Tecumseh Sherman was at that time in his "March to the Sea" from Atlanta. Thus, Benjamin may very likely had been part of Sherman's armies.

Sorry about this error. L. Salyards
