Hello, Syd,
"Samuels" is an Anglicized name so I doubt that very few left Russia with it. In my case, my great-grandfather was named Chaim Schlemovitz and came from Kiev to New York with his family, about 1906. My dad always knew him as Herman Samuels. I am told that the name was first changed to Solomon and then became Samuels.
I once met another Samuels who said that his name was originally Abramovitz.
My father is a Sid Samuels too, and his first cousin is Syd Samuels.
