Johan Georg Sendel in Pennsylvania
Johan Georg Sendel was among the 406 passengers who traveled to Pennsylvania on the ship Duke of Wirtemberg via Cowes (with Captain Montpelier), October 16, 1751. [Rupp, A Collection of Upwards of Thirty Thousand Names..., p. 269]
Johan Jurg/Georg Sendel was born August or September 1760 in Lowhill Township, Pennsylvania, the son of Andreas/Andrew Sendel and his wife Anna Maria. He married Anna Katherina (Bieber) Waltman, apparently some time before 1788 when their first child was born.
These cannot have been the same person, given the fact that the travel date is earlier than the birth date. I wonder whether anyone has further information on either Johan.
Here are the offspring of the second Johan and Anna Katherina:
George, b. 27 June 1788, Lowhill Twp., PA, m. Elizabeth Fenstermacher [my ancestors]
Michael, b. 22 January 1792, Lowhill Twp., m. Polly Ann Sterner
Jacob, b. 6 August 1796
Peter, b. 7 February 1801
Catherine, b. 8 March 1803, m. Nicholas Sterner
Anna Katherina was 26 when her first son was born and 41 when her last daughter was born. Jurg died in January 1814 at 53. Anna Katherina lived another 30 years and died September 24, 1844, in Bittersville, PA. It is not clear what the Fenstermacher connection was between Anna Katherina’s mother and her son George’s wife but we do have information on Elizabeth Fenstermacher’s parents.
