Sanderlin (Swedish or Scottish)

I found something of interest while I was at the Salem Historical Society Library in New Jersey this weekend.

There was a geneology for the descendants of Joran Kyn of New Sweden. On page 32 there was a paragraph reading as follows;

JAMES SANDELANDS (#58), a Scot and former English soldier who arrived with Carrin 1664, was married to Jurgen Keen's daughter Anna. On 13 June 1670 Governor Lovelace granted him a lot at Upland, bound on the northwest by Jurgen Keen and on the southeast by Lars Lock. Sandelands died at Upland (Chester) in 1692, survived by his wife and seven children, Eleanor, Catharine, Christian, Mary, James, Jonas, and Lydia.

I believe this may be where some of the confusion comes from. James Sandelands was Scottish and his wife Swedish.

I know that in some of the books I looked at there were several spellings (Sanderlin, Sanderlan, Sauderlan, Saunderlain, Sandeland, and so on).
