Hello Forum,

I am looking for information regarding Samuel Sanders who was born about 1745 in England. The information I have was gleaned from a book called "Shawnee Heritage" written by Noel Schultz and Shawnee Professor Don Greene. This book DOES NOT cite any sources so it needs to be taken with a "grain of salt".

Samuel, who was a "white man", came to America as an indentured laborer in Virginia before 1760. Samuel escaped to Kentucky about 1760 and was soon "adopted" into the Shawnee tribe through his first marriage.

According to the book, Samuel took part in several raids with the Indians in the Virginia, Kentucky and Ohio Vallies between 1763 - 1792. He was also involved with the Cornstalk War and the Blue Jacket War. In 1808 he acted as a translator for a Treaty (the book does not specify which Treaty and with what Tribe but possibly the Shawnee?).

Samuel Sanders and his son Samuel Jr. went to Canada after 1815 where Samuel Sr. died and Samuel Jr. eventually moved into Kansas where he died.

The book breaks down Samuel's three marriages as follows:

1st Shawnee woman Pashika Pekowi m. about 1764 in Kentucky. Their children were listed as Elder daughter m. Adam Brown, Youngest daughter m. Moses Choate (my line), Samuel Jr. and James.

2nd Wyandot woman m. about 1771 in Tennessee or Ohio. Their child was Alexander Sanders.

3rd Cherokee woman m. after 1772. Their children are unknown and my have either used the surname Sanders or Saunders.

As a result of Samuel's marriages to wife #2 and #3, he was also adopted into the Wyandot and Cherokee tribes.

I hope someone has information about Samuel Sanders. Please contact me through this forum or directly to my e-mail addy:
