Are you sure this was an 1820 tax record? My notes on the 1800 tax list for Buckingham County state that Judith was John's widow, twenty years earlier. John's estate and Judith were assessed on the same day, yet John's estate shows 0 white males above 16, 8 slaves and 6 horses; Judith was assessed as having 0/3/2. I guess this means that Judith was already in possession of the standard widow's allotment of 1/3, but the remainder of John's estate had yet to be dispersed.
John Sanders (Estate) –0/8/6;Aug 12, 1800(List A, p. 16).
Judith Sanders (widow of John) –0/3/2;Aug 12, 1800(List A, p. 16).
Are you descended from John & Judith? Recent DNA matches show I am descended from a group that was reportedly in Buckingham in the late 1700's and later branched out into Wythe Co. VA and Caswell Co. NC. I'm still trying to sort it all out. If you are connected to John and Judith I'd like to compare notes.
Justin Sanders.
