Reuben and son Daniel - Monroe County, Mississippi

My GG Grandfather was Daniel Sanders, died 15 Mar 1867 - age unknown. He was married to Eliza Henry, and they were the parents of my G Grandmother, Lydia Amanda Sanders, wife of William "Willie" Beauregard Simmons. Daniel (shown as E.D. Sanders in Civil War records) served in Company F, 41st Mississippi Inf. His death occurred, according to family lore, as the result of wounds received during the war, in Monroe County, Mississippi, two years after the war ended. I recently discovered a hand-written sheet in an aunt's collection indicating that Daniel's father was Reuben Sanders, and that his mother's name was Sarah. In 1870 and later census records for Monroe County, I find a Reuben Sanders, but his wife's name is Amanda. However, he is 18 years her senior, and on the 1900 census he states he has been married 54 years while she states 34 years. Did he mean 54 total years of marriage or 54 years since his first marriage? If 54 total years with a break in between, then this Reuben might be the father of Daniel. I hope to find information regarding the earlier marriage of Reuben and Sarah and any information of their off-spring. Can anyone help?
