Relatives of Filippo Leone Sanna and Giovannina Barbera
My great great grandfather Filippo Leone Sanna was born September 23, 1854 in Sciacca, Sicily. My great great grandmother Giovannina Barbera was born in 1862. They married sometime between 1880 and 1882 and emigrated to NYC in November 1899.
It is speculated that Filippo Leone Sanna had at least two brothers, Francesco and Gaspare. I believe Giovannina may have had a sister named Caterina and one named Giuseppa.
F. Leone was known to his family as "Papa Leone" and Giovannina was known as "Mama Nina".Their children were:
Antonio "Anthony" b. 21 May 1883 (married Anna Romano)
Giuseppa "Josephine" b. 29 Feb 1887 (married Tom Mangiere)
Carlo "Charlie" b. 17 June 1889 (married Emilia Cilillo)
Alfredo "Alfred" b. 31 July 1893 (married Julia Lease)
Tamaguo b. 1899 (died of infection between 1899 and 1910)
Pasquale "Douglas" b. 22 July 1902 (married Andree Cabella)
Yolla "Yolanda" b. 10 October 1905 (never married)
The Sanna boys were heavily involved in the cheese industry and started the Sanna Dairies. They invented things like Sanalac and Swiss Miss. Eventually they were bought by Beatrice and then the Sanna boys started a new company called SACO Foods which is in business in Wisconsin today!
Josephine was my great grandmother and I knew her as a child. I also knew Yolanda and Doug. I've been able to find descendants of Anthony, Douglas, and Alfred and I really want to find the rest so if you are related let me know!
