Josiah Sasser (circa 1796 - ) & Penelope Keen

I just recently located the marriage record of my Great-Great Grandfather, STEPHEN S. SASSER in Smyth County, Virginia. He married NANCY HAYNES on May 12, 1870. He list his birthplace as North Carolina and his parents as JOSIAH SASSER and PENELOPE KEEN. I am trying to locate this JOSIAH SASSER and his family in North Carolina but have been unsuccessful so far. Is the PENELOPE SASSER that was living in Wilson County, NC in 1860 and 1870 the widow of Josiah Sasser or was she someone else? She had an older lady living with her named Bettie (Elizabeth) Sasser. Penelope shows being born between 1800 and 1810 by her age during these census years. Bettie Sasser was about 4 to 7 years older than Penelope. My Stephen Sasser was 46 years of age on the 1870 Smyth County, Virginia Census, placing his bith around 1824. I figure that the JOSIAH SASSER that I am looking for was born circa 1796. Could the JOSIAH SASSER that married ELIZABETH BRYAN in 1825 have had a second marriage??? I welcome any help with this brick wall. You can email me at jerryolinger@embarqmail.com

Thank you.
