Penelope Sasser 1850 & 1860 Wayne County, NC

I'm endeavoring to locate the parents of my great-great-grandfather, STEPHEN S. SASSER, who was born circa 1824 in North Carolina. On his marriage license to NANCY HAYNES dated May 12, 1870 in Smyth County, Virginia, STEPHEN SASSER states that he was born in North Carolina and that his parents are JOSIAH SASSER and PENELOPE KEEN. STEPHEN SASSER says that he is a widower on this license.

On the 1850 Wayne County, NC census, there is a listing for PENNY SASSER, age 35, with a son named NATHAN SASSER, age 2. Living with her were WILLIAM HOWELL, age 23, SUSAN HOWELL, age 22, SOPHIA HOWELL, age 2, CALVIN HOWELL, age 9 months. Is this my PENELOPE KEEN SASSER, possibly a widow of JOSIAH SASSER? Was WILLIAM HOWELL's wife, SUSAN, a SASSER? Possibly a daughter of JOSIAH SASSER and PENELOPE KEEN SASSER???

Living near PENNY SASSER was a boy named WILLIAM SASSER, age 4, enumerated with WILLIAM ROSE, age 36 and his wife CHARLEY, age 34 (54?). Is this WILLIAM SASSER also a son of PENNY SASSER???

Also on the 1850 Wayne County, NC census there is listed a STEPHEN SASSER, age 14 living with WM. H. GARDNER, age 45 and his wife MARY GARDNER, age 46. Is this my STEPHEN SASSER?

I know that there is another STEPHEN SASSER with a wife named NANCY SASSER and three children named: WILLIAM, JAMES and ELIZABETH, living in Wayne County, NC in 1850. This family may have relocated to Texas by 1860. I believe this STEPHEN SASSER, born circa 1812, could possibly be the son of the older HENRY SASSER that died in 1872 in Wayne County, NC.

In 1860, the family of WILLIAM HOWELL is compiled as follows: WILLIAM HOWELL, age 35, SUSAN, age 32, SOPHIA, age 12, CALVIN, age 9, MARY, age 8, ZILPHA, age 7, JAMES, age 4, and WILEY, age 1, HENRY HOWELL, age 37, and PENELOPE SASSER, age 49. Again, is this my PENELOPE KEEN SASSER, a possible widow of JOSIAH SASSER???

Also on the 1860 Wayne County, NC census is STEPHEN SASSER, age 24, living with HENRY DANIEL, age 33, and his wife MARY J., age 29, with children: JOHN M., age 11, JAMES P., age 5, SUSAN R., age 3, SARAH, age 7 months and MARTHA JONES, age 16. Is this my STEPHEN SASSER???

I found one mention of a PENNY SASSER marrying a JAMES SASSER in Wayne County, NC in 1866. Could this have been the widow PENELOPE KEEN SASSER??? I have yet to locate this JAMES SASSER and PENNY SASSER on the 1870 census.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
