Sasso-Morott connection
Hi, Michael Nicolas Morott was my grand-father, he lived in McAdoo, Pa., and had an uncle by the name of Clarence Sasso who had a store in the Hazelton, Pa. area. My sister Lenora, cousin Lois, and myself are trying to build our family tree. But we do not have very much to go on. Most of our Dad's family has passed away, however we do have two elderly aunts who still live in McAdoo, Pa., but unfortunately they do not remember much, not even their grandmothers' name.We are trying very hard to find anyone who can help us. We know that our great-grandparents lived somewhere near Naples, Italy and had a vineyard, we believe great-grandpa died from either falling from a tree or being hit in the head by the branch of a tree. After his death, great-grandmother moved to America and settled in or near Hazelton, Pa., remarried and sent for her children (we think grandpa had a twin sister who died during the voyage). We do not know who she married, but we know that grandpa had half brothers and sisters. We believe there is a connection to the Romans, Yanettes, and Sasso's, but do not know how it all fits together. If anyone out there in the Sasso family knew or knew of Michael N. and Apolonia Morott of the Hazelton-McAdoo, Pa. area please help us with any information you have. Our Dad, Joseph James Morott, was born in a little coal village called Yorktown in 1898. Yorktown was between Hazelton and McAdoo, but it no longer exist. Grandpa worked in the mines around that area until he started his own business, he had a saloon, hardware store, and he repaired coal heaters. He also helped organize and work with the coal minors unions. His brother-in-law was Frank Stepaniak (Stefanik). Daddy's brothers and sisters who lived in Pennsylvania in or around McAdoo were Catherine Morott, Michael Morott, Jake Morott, Frank Morott, Mary Morott Wolowiec, Anna Morott Jancewicz, and Agnes Morott Barnhart. Please if you have any information that might help us learn the name of our great-grandmother, we would be eternally greatful. We believe she may be buried in the Most Precious Blood Cemetary in Hazelton because one of our aunts remembers a cousin taking her there as a child and showing her a grave, "saying that is where our grandmother is buried." Please email if you can help.
