Hi, Terrie ...
Well, as you know, according to Goldie you don't exist
Your grandfather, Lyle Charles Satterlee, was b. 26 Jan 1896 at Independence, IA, and d. 10 May 1954 in L.A. (buried in Independence).Your grandmother was Florence Rebecca Hall, b. 26 Oct 1897 at Nashua, IA, d/o Asa Dawson Hall & Florence Armenia (Durand).
Lyle Charles Satterlee was the s/o Charles William Satterlee, b. Jul 1873 in Boone County, IA, d. 2 Mar 1928 at Waterloo, IA.He married Augusta Wagner, b. 31 Aug 1871, d. 26 Oct 1939 at Ida Grove, IA, d/o William Wagner & Amelia (Tribon).
Charles William Satterlee was the s/o Byron Freeman Satterlee, b. 3 Jul 1849 at Monroe, Greene Co., Wis., d. 10 Jul 1913 at Ida Grove, IA.He was m. #1 c. 1870 to Anna Deal, b. c. 1852, d/o James Deal and (?).[She was the sister of Jane Deal, who married Byron Freeman's brother, Ebben O. Satterlee.]Byron Freeman was m. #2 in the 1890's to May Lackey. It appears there was no issue from the second marriage, but May Lackey subsequently married a man named Bartells and had 4 children with him.
Byron Freeman Satterlee was the s/o William Irving Satterlee, b. c. 1810 in Onondaga Co., NY, d. 25 Sep 1877 at Boonesboro, IA.He was m. 7 Aug 1832 at Paris, Edgar Co., IL to Mary Ann Nobles, b. c. 1815.
William Irving Satterlee was the s/o Elisha Satterlee, b. 29 Sep 1784 at Easton, Washington Co., NY, d. 9 Aug 1858 at Woodstock, Richland Co., WI.He was m. in 1803 at Cambridge, Washington Co., NY to Almira Curtis, b. 14 Jun 1783 at Hartford, Hartford Co., CT, d. 13 Apr 1857 at Woodstock, Richland Co., WI.
Elisha Satterlee was the s/o Gideon Satterlee, b. c. 1740's at Westerly, RI.He was m. 3 Jan 1764 at Westerly, RI to Ruth Bentley, d/o George Bentley & Ruth (Barber).Ruth was descended, through her mother as I recall, from George Soule, who came over on the Mayflower.Gideon and Ruth's brother, Caleb Bentley, served under Admiral Pococke and Lord Albemarle in the expedition against Havana in 1762.
Gideon Satterlee was the s/o John (I) Satterlee, b. 24 Feb 1701 at Westerly, RI, d. 23 Aug 1758 at Westerly. He was m. #1 on 4 Jan 1726 to Experience Lamphere, b. 8 Apr 1709 at Westerly, d/o John Lamphere and Ruth (?).He was m. #2 on 4 Dec 1748 to Amey Lamphere, b. 22 Jun 1715 at Westerley, d/o Richard Lamphere & Mary (?).Experience and Amey were, no doubt, some degree of cousins. It seems likely that Experience was Gideon's mother.
John (I) Satterlee was the s/o Nicholas Satterlee, our immigrant ancestor, who was baptized in 1649 at Ide, near Exeter, Devon, England. He emigrated to Westerly, RI on 18 May 1669 and was listed as a freeman of Washington Co., RI in 1680.His wife was Mary; nothing else is known about her.
Nicholas was one of four brothers (one was a half-brother) who emigrated to the colonies from Devon between the 1650's and the 1680's.Their father was the Rev. William Satterlee, b. 1610 at Silferton, Devon County, England, d. 1678 in Dorset County, England. The Rev. Wm. was a colorful character who was imprisoned by Cromwell but released and returned to his vicarage at Ide at the restoration of Charles II.The story is that he was later forced out because he was a little too friendly with the ladies of the parish, and retired to Dorset where he died in 1678.
The Rev. Wm's ancestry is traced (perhaps questionably, although Goldie was absolutely certain) to the family that held the Sotterley manor in Suffolk Co., England fromuntil the Wars of the Roses, when it was transferred to a Playter son-in-law (the Playters were on the winning side).
