Joseph Satterly b 1687 NOT mentioned in the Will of William II Satterly b 1660
From: Records of the Town of Brookhaven, Suffolk, NY 1660-1795 (Ancestry.com) and Werner's book, Genealogies of Long Island Families (Satterly section.)
Many descendants of the William The Immigrant Satterly of L.I. line now spell their urname SatterLEE.
William II Satterly b 1660 d 1722 was the son of William The Immigrant Satterly b1632 d 1677 of Setauket, Brookhaven, Suffolk, New York.
William II Satterly's will, proved in 1729, only mentions "ELDEST" son William III Satterly b 1703 , 2nd son Richard b1705 , 3rd son Nathaniel (b abt 1709) and 4th son Arthur b 1709. Joseph Satterly b 1687 is listed by Werner, in his book Genealogies of Long Island Families as a son of William II Satterly.
This makes me wonder if Joseph was a son of William II Satterly at all. And if Joseph WAS a son of William II Satterly b 1660 then the William III Satterly mentioned in the will would have to be OLDER than Joseph, who was b. 1687. However, Werner's Genealogies of LI Families Satterly section says that Joseph Satterly b 1687 WAS a son of William Satterly b 1660 d 1722.
I conclude that the Will of William II Satterly b 1660 d1722, son of William The Immigrant Satterly b 1632 d 1677 is MORE likely to be the accurate source.
Since the Will clearly states that William III Satterly b 1703 was the ELDEST son of William II Satterly, it appeares that Joseph Satterly b 1687 was NOT his son.
This makes the information in Werner's book INaccurate.
Finally, my research seems to indicate that Joseph Satterly b 1687 was perhaps the son of John Satterly b abt 1660 and likely a brother to William II Satterly .
This would make William II Satterly the uncle of Joseph Satterly b 1687.
More research is need to confirm these relationsips.
Good luck!!
