Let me tell you what he (L. B. McFarland) says about the origin of the Douglass family
"Edward Douglass, who came to America from Scotland, married Sarah George in Faquier County Virginia in 1740.
In the fall of 1785, he, with his family, moved to Sumner County, Tennessee, their children are as follows:"
Summarized:
Listing of his children, John, William, Elizabeth, Elmore, Ezekial, sally, Edward (married Elizabeth Howards of Chatham, N.C.), etc.(names of all the wives, husbands are included.
Then the book follows the Elmore Douglass line (all his children names, dob listed) to Burchett Douglass (more detail on his children, their dates and spouses) to Addison to Martha (the author's mother). The information becomes more detailed down through Martha). So your Norval is a distant cousin. Most of the book contains the speeches, adventures and reflections of L.B. McFarland.
We're not interested in those family lines, but thought someone might be interested in buying one of the books or would at least reimuburse costs of copies of those lines and mailing.Yours is the first response I've got. It's surprising because I did find someone on the McFarland family page who seems to be a direct descendant of the author, but had his name spelled differently.I sent him the info, but heard nothing back.I'd kill for something like this on my family.
Among these books were many old books given as gifts during the 1880's and 1890's.Most are not in great shape, but they all have original covers and the binding is still good. She gave me all the books, but there were only about three that seemed to have any value, including the two copies of the McFarland book.If I were to sell any of the books, she'd get the proceeds.
Because this is not your direct line the book follows, it may not be of much value to you.But there are nine pages of Douglass family lines (through the lines mentioned above), and pictures of Martha Douglass and Burchette Douglass. If you still want a copy of the info (Douglass Family chapter) in the book, just reimburse me for copying and mailing.
If you're not interested, I sure can understand.Carolene
