My ancestor ggggrandfather Reuben Saunders, b. Caroline Co. Virginia (birthdate unknown) perhaps a lawyer by occupation, married November 22, 1825 to Lavinia Jones Saunders b. June 11, 1803 , daughter to Col. William Saunders died May 11,1819 and Sarah Jones died Nov. 11, 1827 ( no birthdates on either - they had 12 children). Sarah's mothers name was Ann. We think that Reuben fought in the 1812 War, and maybe he or an ancestor may have fought in American Revolution as well, but have no confirmation to date. Col. William Saunders, Reuben's father-in-law fought in the American Revolution.
Reuben and Lavinia's son my gggrandfather James Madison Saunders born Caroline Co. Virginia 1840, wife Angelina T. Richardson. He died as result of wounds received at Battle of Malvern Hill, Virginia July 1862. Either brother or uncle to James Madison Saunders was a man named William A. Saunders, m. Emeline Motley, also a lawyer. Their son, John Richard Saunders Atty. General of Virginia. William A. Saunders helped Jame's widow, Angelina receive Captains pension after James death.
Their son, my ggrandfather Edgar Waller Saunders, born New Kent Co. Virginia 1858, married Frances Elvira Swain after going to California, with Uncle James Richardson, a physician. Edgar's brothers name was James Madison Saunders II b.1861 New Kent,Virgina, married Clara Farinholt. His fathers widow (Angelina above named)also married a Farinholt. Clara and Jame's daughter named Roberta, sons Clarence Edgar Saunders and James Spottswood Saunders. Daughter Mattie died young. Roberta may have done DAR work on Reuben Saunders(?)- I am researching this.
My grandfather Lowell Waller Saunders born Red Bluff, CA.1901 d.1954
