Yes, I agree that most of us in America do not know the difference between coats of arms and crests, but the crests I have seen seem to incorporate elements at least of the coat which was on the shield. I am not the person who wrote the original query, so the neighbor mentioned is not mine. You can add other locations to your list of the Saunders families using the three elephants' heads in their arms, viz: Berks, Bucks, Cavan, Cork, Essex, Herts, Kent, Lancs, Leics, Lincs, London, Oxon, Middx, Norfolk, Northants, Suffolk, Warks, Wexford & Wicklow. I have found them in each of these locations.
