I'm not sure this will help, but...
I have Frances Flora Saunders, b 1847 marrying Joshua Hansbrough in Shelby Co., KY. Frances Flora is the daughter of Robert Standfield Saunders and Maria Louisa Jesse, his second wife. They also had a son named George, DOB unknown, but probably about 1835. Robert's father was Reuben Saunders and his mother was Frances Jones. Reuben was born in Virginia and came to Kentucky sometime after serving in the Revolutionary War.

I'll bet there is a connection. I have quite a bit of information about the Saunders family, including a hand-writtten genealogy written about 1900. Hope this helps, let me know if it sheds some light and perhaps we can share data.
