Thanks, I have learned since the post that my ancestor name was James Alexander Saunders and he was the son of Peter F Saunders, born 1797. Peter's father's name was Francis Saunders born around 1775 (no idea where).

Because early census do not list family members, I haven't a clue as where to look next. Appreciate any help I can get!
