Capt. John Huggins married Elizabeth White Huggins moved to Darlington District prior to Paul Saverance. Was Rev. War Soldier and member of House of Rep. from Darlington Dist. 1790-1792. On Feb. 8, 1804 he deeded to Hannah Huggins Saverance, one negro woman named phobo, one negro boy named Enoch (11 or 12 yrs old) one negro boy named Charles and one plantation tract of land situated on lynches creek containing 450 acres (DB B, Pg 123, Darlington RMC)this plat show 496 acres dated 1802.
John Huggins sold to Paul Saverance, shoemaker, of the same place, 360 acres on the north side of lynches river for $450. Joined land of John Huggins, William Slone & Josh Dubose, (DB B Pg 124, Darlington RMC) This property was located on Old Creek Road between Fair Hope Church & Old Cemetary where New Hope Methodist Church was located. In Darlington RMC Paul continued to buy land until 1841. At times he owned close to 1800 acres. According to 1830 & 1840 census he owned 15 slaves. He gave land and money to his children until his death at which time he owned 949 acres.
Paul Saverance was born 1770 in Christ Church parish Berkeley SC He died May 11, 1844 in Darlington District. Paul married Hannah Huggins on February 28, 1797. Paul was a shoemaker, moved near Lynches creek near Cypress in 1802 or 1803 - Paul conveyed to Robert M. Saverance & James H. Huggins for Martha Jane Mims, 175 acres of land, 1 negro boy named Soloman (13yrs old). Martha Jane to have use of the land and negro boy all her natural life. Robert M. Saverance & James H. Huggins trustees - (DB N, Pg638, Darlington RMC) Hannah Huggins born 1776, died in 1842. George Huggins was buried in New Hope Cemetary, he married Letita Montgomery.
Robert Myrl Saverance was born Feb. 4, 1808. He died September 30, 1887 and was buried at Fairhope cemetary in Lamar, Darlington County, SC. He married Elizabeth Simmons Huggins. Last home located in front of Fairhope church. Bought 949 Acres with brother Samuel G. in settlement of estate of Paul and Hannah in 1846. Elizabeth Simmons Huggins was born September 13, 1808. She died December 30, 1887 and was buried in Fairhope cemetary.
Captain Joseph Commander was born Sept 17, 1800 & Died December 29, 1883 and was buried at Fairhope cemetary, Darlington Co. SC Joseph married "Mourning Star Crow" (an indian). He was organizer of Fairhope Presbyterian Church. He owned the surrounding land. He had been an elder in Lynchburg Presbyterian Church. The Commanders have been Presbyterian for generations, migrating into this area about the time of the Revolution from Scot-Irish settlements in Williamsburg. Capt Jos. Commander is said to have been a veteran of the war in Mexico. His Son Robert was killed in action during the war between the states.

Sarah Commander born Jan. 9, 1836 in Darlington Co. SC She died December 7, 1922 in Darlington Co. SC and was buried at fairhope cemetary.
Stephen Lane born Oct. 7, 1839 in Marion Co. SC and died March 9, 1912 from burns and was buried in Carterville Cemetary, Florence Co. SC. Stephen married Lincey Lee Hursey on April 17, 1852 in at home wedding near catfish church. Lost arm in war, drank to excess in later years. was using gasoline on legs as an arthritis remedy and fell in the open fire of the fireplace and received fatal burns. was known as little steve lane.
Lincey Lee Hursey bn. 8/25/1842 in Marion Co. SC died 9/16/1929 in Saunders Mem. Hosp. from broken hip and was buried in Carterville Cemetary, Florence Co. SC
Maldon Gregg Saverance was born November 30, 1873 in Darlington Co. SC, He died Sept. 5, 1945 in Florence Co. SC from cancer and was buried at farihope cemetary. Maldon married Edna Virginia Lane. A farmer and a Gentleman.
Edna Virginia Lane was born Aug. 30, 1879 in Florence, SC. She died March 5, 1966 in Florence, SC and is buried at fairhope cemetary.
Robert Myrl Saverance - bn 6/11/1906 in Darlington Co. SC. He died 10/9/1948 in Sumter SC from an auto accident and was buried 10/12/1948 at Fairhope cemetary. "Bob" married Dorothy Louise Schueller on 8/30/1935 in Middletown Ohio. He attended Univ. of South Carolina electrical Engineering - entered army pilot training program at Brooks field in San Antonio Texas. Never completed the piulot training and returned home. Went to Middletown Ohio to work with the power company there and returned in 1935 with a new bride. Lost his left hand in an accident--heard a noise in the hen house-went to investigate tripped over a buggy hub (wheel). When he fell the 10gauge shotgun he was carrying discharged and shot off his left hand. Farmed the area around Fairhope church and cemetary until his death in 1948. Worked on the construction of Camp Lejuene Marine Base before and during WWII. Died from injuries sustained in an auto accident.
Dorothy Louise Schueller, Born 8/30/1914 died October 2000. She was married three times each husband pre-deceased her. Served on several boards and commissions, PEE DEE Electric Cooperative, Darlington County Water & Sewer Auth. & Darlington Co. School Board.
John Frederick Saverance (author/compiler of this information) -- Born 10/17/1936 in Florence County SC -- Married Mattie Lorraine Lee on 10/16/1959 at Salem United Methodist Church in Timmonsville, SC- graduated Lamar HS 1955, entered USC in fall 1955, graduated with BS in Mechanical Engineering in 1960. USAF pilot - graduated pilot training June 1961. Served 2 tours in Vietnam. worked for Lockewood Green in Spartanburg, then for State of SC at Florence Darlington Tech. worked as full time alert pilot until 1973, then worked for SC Budget and Control Board- General Services in Columbia and retired in 1988. Returned to Lamar and continues to work as a designated examiner for the FAA.
Mattie Lorraine Lee born April 19, 1938 in Florence SC - graduated form Lander College - worked as a substitute teacher and full time teacher at James F. Byrnes Academy, All Saints Episcopal school, and Thomas Sumter Academy until 1988.
Robert Myrl Saverance - Born April 17, 1962 in Fayetteville, NC. Graduated HS from Thomas Sumter Academy in 1980, Attended Clemson University. Currently Executive General Manager of "The Egg & I" farm. Married Mindy Albrecht Saverance in September of 1995.
Julian Ellis Saverance (me) - Born March 2, 1965 in Eglin AFB Florida. Graduated HS from Thomas Sumter Academy in May 1983. Entered Clemson University. Graduated 1989 with BS in Building Science & Construction Management. Worked for GMK Associates in Columbia 1989-1995 as Director of Construction Sevices and opened Precision Surveying, Inc. in July 1995. Registered Professional Land Surveyor licensed in South Carolina. Married Melissa Dawn Williams on May 12, 1990. We have two daughters - Madeline Gray Saverance & Carsyn Elise Saverance.
