Starting Sept. 5, 2014, Genealogy.com will be making a big change. GenForum
message boards, Family Tree Maker homepages, and the most popular articles
will be preserved in a read-only format, while several other features will

There is a large contingent of Saverances in the Pee Dee region of South Carolina - Florence and Darlington counties. My great grandfather, James Wilton Saverance, owned a large farm in Berkeley County, SC, before the Depression, but he was from Lamar (in Darlington County), South Carolina, and returned to Lamar when he lost the Berkeley County farm during the Depression. Although most of the Saverances around here live in Florence and Darlington counties, there are some in Rock Hill (York County, near Charlotte, NC), Lancaster (also near Charlotte), Columbia and North Augusta (a bedroom community across the Savannah River from Augusta, GA). The geneology expert regarding Saverances is Fred Saverance in Lamar, SC (843)326-5246. He has tracked the family back for hundreds of years and probably can shed some light on your questions.
