A book called the Sayre Family: by Theordore Banta in 1865 references this lineage:

Thomas gains many land grants in Isle of Wight: he has one son: Thurmuston: who had inherited Thomas lands:

Thurmuston was the father of Francis Sayer of Norfolk County who became a leading citizen.......various other of these Syers moved to Augusta County Georgia where they intermarried with the Robert Sayers lineage of Pennsylvania.......

It is commonly held that this family conducted itself under the pronunciation of SAWYER......
