Sayer - Garrison 1825-1835
Ralph, I posted a reply to your post on the Orange County New York Genforum 2/07/13.Since you didn't reply I am reposting it here.
Caleb Sears (Sayer, Sayre, etc.) married Mary Garrison on May 20, 1824 in Muskingum County, Ohio.Caleb D. Sayer was my g-g-grandfather.Some of the information about him and the family was given to me by another descendant.I have come across all variations of his last name used during his life.
I stopped at the Muskingum County, Ohio court house several years ago to get a copy of their marriage certificate. The clerk said there is no actual copy of a marriage certificate. She showed me a list of marriages and Caleb and Mary Garrison's was just a line with their names and the date, May 20, 1824.I don't think his middle name or initial was given.
There was another Caleb Sears in Muskingum County, Ohio at the same time. His name was Caleb Jefferson Sears.Someone posted on the internet that Mary Garrison was his first wife and Absolom Maxwell was his second wife, who he married on August 3, 1826 in Morgan County, Ohio. (Two years later.)I'm sure this information is wrong. It said that Mary Garrison died.
I'm sure, but no proof, that Caleb Sears in Ohio was Caleb D. Sayer of Warwick in Orange County, New York.Caleb and Mary Garrison's oldest son, Amos, was born in Ohio on April 10, 1825 and their second son, Abraham, was born on May 5, 1826 in Orange County, New York.
As to when Mary died. The Orange County Genealogical Society Quarterly Vol. 41 No. 2 August 2011 issue has a section, Records Of The Town Of Wallkill, Orange County, NY.On page 23, Deaths 1881-1913 lists Sayre, Andrew, d 5 May 1881, age 46-3-7 (b NYS), son of Caleb (b NYS) & Mary Garrison. Cem: Middletown [11].I calculated that he was born Jan. 28, 1835.His sister Mary was born about 1835 also. The next child, John was born about 1845.He may have been either Mary's or Hannah's.The Sayer Tombstone says Mary died in 1845.It's in Warwick Cemetery in Warwick, Orange County, NY.
Where does Caleb fall in your Sayre research?
