Looking for any information about my maternal grandfather. I have absolutely no information about him, just his name. I don't know his date of birth, or anything as to what county he was born in, or what county his family was from. The only evidence I can find of a POSSIBILITY of locating his existence on record is ASSUMED that he may be the brother of Essie Gertrude Goings (not even sure of the surname spelling) who was married to Stonewall Jackson Woolbright on the 1920 South Carolina census in Abbeville County, SC. Stonewall J Woolbright 26 Essie G Woolbright 26 Ida E Woolbright 2 6/12 Florence Woolbright 6/12 Ida Goring 50 Wideman Going 17 Addie Going 19 Leroy Going 10 Leroy Going or Goings or Goines or Goins or Lee Roy would be the person I am seeking. If he is the biological father of my mother, he was recognized by my grandmother to be her husband. Her name is Mabel Burtell Harris. My mother's birth name is Mabel Helen Goings. I don't have mother's birth certificate so I can't check to see how the surname is spelled. I have searched for data on other Essie Goings' siblings: Wideman, Addie, Frank; also on Ida Goings. There was an Ida Goings married to William B. Goings. If any of these names ring a bell with anyone, either the Goings or the Woolbrights, I would like to find living descendants that may have clues to the identity of Leroy Going on the 1920 census. Leroy or Lee Roy Goings was commonly referred to by my mother as "Roy". Roy and Mabel Goings were separated and divorced (so says my grandmother that they were married, but I am skeptical that they actually were). I have not located any marriage or divorce records since South Carolina is not the best keeper of online genealogical records. Birth records were not kept until 1915. My mother was born in Union County, Lockhart, SC, June 27, 1926. So I am assuming that Roy and Mabel were probably residing in that county. My mother saw her father only one time after he separated from her mother. She was an infant when he left. She saw Roy Goings briefly after my birth in 1947, but doesn't anything about where he was living, what he was doing, or anything about his time spent since she was a baby. The only thing that she knew was that he made his living as a bootlegger. I would very much like to find my biological grandfather. My mother is deceased and she never located him during her lifetime. Dollie Nance Notify Administrator about this message?
