He was the son of Luther and Abigail Branch - both are Branches - Abigail was a Branch as well - they were third cousins - I have all that lineage info. I have several books on the Branch line as well. I can send you that in a separate email since it is in a Word doc. But I have our Branch lines traced back to England and through John adn Peter. The famous Christopher Branch who is the Founder of virginia is a cousin to our Peter. anyway - Samuel had several children.. Two sons, john Luther and William Alexander fought inthe War Between the States. John was a Col and ordered the first shots fired of the War on the vessel the Star of the West. I have documentation proving that. and william (who was the younger brohter) was there too and supposedly raised the first flags of secession (he was at the military institure there). Samuel's brother, Isaac was a doctor and it was at his home that the first meetings of the Secession were held - now known as Secession Hill. Anyway - william moved to Augusta and married Anna Eliza Fitts (I have headstones etc... I can send you). I descend through his son James Pettigrew Branch through his daughter Anna Elizabeth Branch Phillips. I have lots of info ont he Branch line and would be more than happy to share with you. I would love to seet he coroner's report on Samuel. would you share that? I am also looking for a will. Basicall I am a member of the DAR and the UDC and these docs would be very helpful in proving supplemental lines of membership. :-)I have William Alexander Branch's obit where all of the Civil War info is mentioned (original newspaper clipping) as well as a letter he wrote to the augusta Chronicle stating the service he and John Luther had in the war and his claims of raising the flag and of John ordering the first shots fired. Yes - Elizabeth Wison branch married a man hamed John navey. My grandmother, Anna Elizabeth wrote often to her cousin who had the last name of Navy (name slips me at the moment. They all lived in Augusta Ga. 334 Walker Street. William alexander died at that house, as did my grandmother's mother, Marion Estelle Martin Branch. I have her death notice from the paper. anyway - please feel free to meail me directly at shareyourstory@earthlink.net and I can share more info with you. How did you go about ordering hte coroner's report. I want to get one too. Glad I found you!! Notify Administrator about this message?
