Looking for CARTERS 1700-1850 in Old 96/today's Abbeville & Edgefield Cos of SC. My proven GGG grandfather was Edward CARTER, born about 1797 in SC, died about 1870 in Drew Co, Ark. A brother Benjamin born about 1793. Edward married (I believe) Nancy Allen (born 1809) about 1827 in SC.
They named their kids Samuel, William, Henry, Pleasant Taylor,James, Thomas, Susan, Eliza, Mary, Nancy, Melvina...which may give clues to names of their parents.
Moving west, they lived in Oglethorpe Co, Ga, and in 1850 were in Chickasaw Co, Ms
It's possible Edward Carter's parents, etc. came from York Co, SC,
& Va before that. There's no real proof of that. Thanks a lot for any help.
