I believe that Levi Newberry Gray was born abt. 1822 and he did die in 1872. Levi was married to Sarah Flowers as you mentioned. I do not know who Sarah's parents were.
The 1850 Darlington County census shows L. N. Gray age 27 living alone.
The 1860 census having him as 50 years old is off a little, but it is Levi Newberry Gray and his wife Sarah Flowers. The Hannah Gray age 56 is Levi's sister born abt. 1806. It appears that Levi Newberry Gray's birth year is in question? Hannah Gray appears to have never married?
The children of Levi & Sarah Gray are:
1. A. Gray (female 1859-????)
2. Mat N. Gray 9/12/1856-5/18/1935 (middle name probably Newberry), he married Lavinia E. Jeffords.
3. Beauregard V. Gray 1862-???? married Carrie "unknown".
4. Jennette Gray 9/7/1866-5/17/1899 married William Jacob Odom.
5. Nellie Gray 11/15/1869-5/17/1950 married Edward J. James.
