I am looking for evidence of the ancestors of Ezekiel Hyott and his younger half-brothers, Arthur, Joseph, and Joel Hiott. The latter 3 migrated to Colleton Co., SC and are my ancestors. Ezekiel left Hyatts in Marion/Dillon counties and also in Lee and Kershaw counties of SC.
The only glimmer of information about the parentage of these brothers comes from the IGI, which states that the parents were Chester Hiott and Ruth Lee. However, it gives the dob of Chester as abt 1698 in Georgetown Dist., SC. Unfortunately, there were not any known Europeans in the area that early. IGI also gives the parents of Chester as Gentry Hiott and Caroline Hampton, suggesting that they married in Georgetown Dist. abt 1696, also historically impossible? I have been told that the IGI information comes from sources in the DAR Library in the Washington, DC, area.
Does anyone have a lead on these early Little Pee Dee R. area settlers? Ezekiel was a captain in the Rev., apparently of some irregular militia unit that spent some time in NC. There is also a document in the archives where he sold (on credit) beef to Gen Marion. Unfortunately, there is nothing in Gregg's "Early Pee Dee Settlers" about this family. The descendants are mentioned numerous times in the "Index of Names from issues of the 'Pee Dee Queue'", but not the ancestors of the brothers. Any help would be appreciated.
--- David
