Davenport researchers, please read!

About 20 years ago, my great-aunt Ellen Howard Teat, daughter of Bud and Sarah Ellen Davenport Howard, told me that her grandparents were William Davenport and Emma Harvey.

I checked all the records I could find at the time and found nothing. I found family trees with William Davenport and Emma Holcomb, so thought she had been mistaken about the last name. Aunt Ellen’s mother had died when she was about 2 and her grandmother had been dead for many years.

Then I found the 1900 census. Emma has been married to William for 13 years and has 4 children. There are two more children on this census. James born abt 1883 and Ellen born abt 1885. Therefore these older children must be from a first marriage.

In 1880 I find William Davenport married to Margaret. They have children born between 1870 and 1880, Fannie, Etta, Willis and Minnie.

Today I received a copy of death certificate for Ellen Howard, born abt 1885 died April 5, 1922. Daughter of W. M. Davenport and Mollie Harvey.

I believe this to be William Davenport and Margaret Harvey.
Can anyone help me straighten out this Davenport family?
All of these people and records are from Greenville County.
