The Scotch-Irish settled the area in the middle 1700's. Two earlier names of this rural community, built adjacent to the railroad, were "Trickemville" and "Indian Hill". Although, the town of Troy is actually located in Greenwood County, many of its historical points of interest are located in McCormick County.
