I just saw this posting regarding George and Rachel Miller from the Hanging Rock area.

Do you have a copy of the will of this George Miller? I have strong reason to believe that RACHEL MILLER was the former RACHEL PAYNE (b. Jan 14, 1762 and d. 1849) who married, first, SAMUEL BELTON (d. 1793). Upon his death she married ARCHIBALD WATSON (d. 1802) and following his death, ALEXANDER STEWART (d. 1810). GEORGE MILLER was her 4th husband (they married sometime between 1810-1813). Finally Rachel married, about 1833 or so, DAVID GREENHILL LEIGH. Rachel died in 1849 and left a will dispersing her considerable assets to several Kershaw area churches, her living brothers and sisters and several neices and nephews.

From each of the four husbands that preceded her in death, Rachel Payne was enriched with land and slaves. She was even able to negotiate a marriage contract with her third husband, Alexander Stewart, according to his will dated 1809. She became a wealthy woman as she preserved the wealth of her husbands' estates and managed their lands.

Can someone please share the contents of this will of George Miller ... or is only the information given on the probation of his will? ... Where did you get the information about when his will was finalized?

Thank you. ... A Payne family researcher,
