William Henry Whitaker (1730-1789) was the son of John Whitaker and Martha Gough of Halifax Co. NC. He and his brother, James Whitaker came to the Camden Dist. SC in the early 1770's. William H. Whitaker evidently married in Halifax Co. NC. The name of his wife is not definitely known, has been said to be Elizabeth Wiggins. He is said to have married at least three times. He had twelve children, but it is not known if all of these children are by the same mother. Can anyone clarify the names of the wives of William Henry Whitaker and if all of the children are indeed by one wife? He died around November, 1789, in the Camden Dist. (probably around Camden, SC) This is the information that I have on the children of William H. Whitaker: 1) Blythell Whitaker, born about 1750 2) William Whitaker, born about 1752 3) Martha Belton Whitaker, born about 1758 m. John Blanton. 4) Elizabeth Whitaker (1760-1787) m. Burwell Boykin in 1782. They had three children. I am descended from their son Francis Boykin (1785-1839) and his wife Mary Darrington James. Mary Darrington James was the daughter of Samuel James and Mary Darrington. Francis Boykin, his family, his sister Elizabeth Boykin who married Starke Hunter, and Thomas Boykin, his half brother, moved to Conech Co. AL 1818-1820. Francis Boykin later moved to Dallas Co. AL in the 1830's. 5) Thomas Whitaker, born 1762, married Mary Williams 6) Catherine Baker Whitaker, born 1764, m. Alexander Irwin. 7) Robert Whitaker, born 1766 8) Margaret Whitaker, born 1768 9) Lemuel Lawrence Whitaker, born 1770, married Elizabeth Brown. 10) Winnifred Whitaker, born 1772 11) Edward Whitaker, born 1774 12) Mary Whitaker, (1776-1833) in 1793, married Burwell Boykin and they had thirteen children. I would like to correspond with any descendants of William Henry Whitaker. I will be glad to share any family information that I have. I know that there are any numbers of descendants of Burwell Boykin and Mary Whitaker still living in Kershaw Co. today. Thank you so much, Charlotte G. Boykin Notify Administrator about this message?
