Robin, Wow, well this is going to give me something new to chew on for a while. I have been at a bit of a standstill for a few months now. This could very well be my George Miller of Kershaw. And, I have long suspected some type of tie to Virginia with this family. But, I don't have any answers for you right now. I have three Miller brothers - Andrew Lewis b 3-09-1809 Tn, died 8-27-1865 Screven Ga (my husband's 2great-grandfather), William b 1811 d 1873 Screven Ga, and Drury b 1822 d 1888 Pickens Al. These three, according to census records, were born in Tn, but I don't know the county. Andrew married Priscilla Harris of Monroe Tn, and I think they were there in 1840. There was a Drury Miller in 1840 Hickman Tn, but I don't think it was this Drury. He was living with a James Chalmers family in Pickens Al in 1850.Drury was a merchant and probably a cotton broker as well. Andrew was in Wilkinson Co Ga in 1850, working as a railroad manager. William I only have in 1870 Screven.
There was a Dr. Daniel Miller living in Pickens Al around the same time as Drury. There were other Millers and Miller relatives with other surnames living in Pickens Al at the same time, tracable back to George of Kershaw and to Martha Miller Bradford of Orange N.C. These two were connected somehow, and my Miller brothers were connected to this family also, though I have no information that points to their ever living in Kershaw S.C. When William Miller's will was probated in Screven Ga in 1877 a Daniel Miller and a Magna Miller were notified, but are not mentioned in the will.
The George Miller family was very wealthy as was Drury Miller. Andrew Miller owned 18 slaves in 1850, and all three brothers inherited at least 600 acres of land each in Screven and Bulloch Ga. So, yes, there was money in this family back in those days, for sure.
I will study this information of yours to see if I can find a tie.
