The Benjamin (1848-1900) and Christian Davis (1855-1928, nee Hearon) to which you refer as the parents of Rosier D. Davis (b.7-18-1889, d. 9-23-1959) are my maternal gr-gr-grandparents. We too have wondered about the Rosier name. Benjamin's father was James R. Davis (1826-1865, CSA 7th SC Cavalry, d. Harts Island Prison, NY). James had a brother named Edward and perhaps another one named Jasper. A couple of Davis people told me that they think that James' middle name was Rosier. James R. Davis' parents were born in SC but I haven't figured out their identities yet.
