I'm seeking for a list of the people buried at the Old Shaffer Cemetery, near St. John's Lutheran Church, and St. Peter Lutheran Church, Piney Woods Cemetery, Newberry Co., South Carolina! Frederick & Elizabeth "Steel" Shaffer were supposely buried there. They were my 5'th Great Grandparent's! Their daughter was Mary Elizabeth Shaffer born June 10, 1765 in Ninty -Six Dist.S.C., she married John Peter SCHUMPERT abt. 1782 in Newberry Dist., S.C.! St. Peter's Piney Woods Lutheran Church, was named after him! John Peter & Mary Elizabeth "Schaffer" Scumpert were buried there at Pimey Woods Cemetery. Mary had two sister's Ann Catherine Swittenberg, and Rebecca "Shaffer" Eargle. She also had one known brother ; John Frederick Shaffer, who was born Aug. 18, 1774 in Lexington Co., S.C., and died Oct. 24, 1859 at Brush Creek, Perry Co., Alabama. He married Magdalina Eichelberger abt. 1792 in Newberry Co., S.C., and they had nine children. Who left Dutch Fork, Newberry Co., S.C., and moved to Alabama, about 1840, three of their son's moved west to Miss., and settled in Oktibbeha & Choctaw Co., Mississippi. Their name's were John M. Shaffer, William Shaffer, and Adam Shaffer, John M. married Mary Dolly Smith Feb. 16, 1823, and they had nine children. Adam married Louisa Colensworth Russell Apr. 8, 1830 in Perry Co., Alabama, they lived in Oktibbeha & Clay Co., Miss.! William Shaffer later moved to Madison Co., Texas! If anyone has ever seen a transcription, or may have a copy of the Old Shaffer Cemetery, please contact me at llatham@peoplepc.com I sure would appreciate any reply's about the Old Shaffer Cemetery. Some claim it was flooded, by Murrah Lake, and is now lost forever!
