The ancestors that I am researching in Newberry Co. are the ones listed above. Wm. Stripling was in Newberry Co. by 1773. He nmarried Catherine Savage in 1778. After her death, he married Mary Moates ,supposed daughter of Audrey Collier Moates & Jonathan Moates. Wm. & Mary had two daughters, Sarah and Audrey Stripling. Sarah mar. Clement Mitchell & they went to Arkansas where the 1870 census record shows that Clem is 70 years old & Sarah is 64. I cannot find them later, so they must have died in Arkansas before the 1880 census. Their children listed in 1870 were: Mary E. (age 15) & Emmie J.(age 10). Would anyone know anything about the parents of Clement Mitchell or anything at all about his family?

Can find no trace of Audrey or her mother, Mary, after the death of Wm. Stripling in 1816 & the settlement of his estate a few years later. The names associated with the Stripling family as neighbors were:Spearman, Eastland, Caldwell, Abney, Atkinson, Hill, Gilliam, Goodman & others.

Frances Stripling, daughter of Wm. Stripling & Catherine Stripling mar. Wm. P. Smith. Believe that they journeyed from Newberry to Tn. around 1820. Anybody familiar with a Smith family living in Newberry or close vicinity between 1800 & 1816? Think that Frances & Wm. mar. circa 1816- 1818. So much fun chasing the Smiths!

Lastly, looking for the parents of Catherine Savage, first wife of Wm. Stripling. Believe that they resided in Edgefield District or Union. Any info on this couple would help tremendously. Wm. Stripling had a brother, Samuel, in Newberry in the 1800 census / need name of his wife. Are there any marriage records besides the Newspaper or Church for that period? Thanks so much if anyone can relate to these people & help me. Regards, Ann C. Davis
