Hi Sue.
&
Thank you for your response. I have been out of town and just now received the notice that you had responded. Sorry for my delay.

Yes, we are researching the same family. I am a descendant of Charles Neal (many variants of course so I will use the 'Neal' spelling) and his wife Jemima Davenport by their daughter Mary who marr to Ransom H Wells (s/o William Neal & Sarah Westmoreland).

Yes, I have seen the various census listing a couple of different Charles Neals in Newberry CO, SC, but I am hesitant to attach our Charles Neal "the younger" (h/o Jemima) as the son of the elder Charles Neal Sr. There are several reasons for this. I do know that Hugh Neal had a son Charles. My "best guess"... our Charles Neal (b.bet 1770-1774) who marr to Jemima Davenport in/abt 1793 would "fit" in the 1790 household of (either) Jonathan Neal, Charles Neal Sr, Robert Neal or Benj. Neal. In the 1810 census, Charles (the younger) is listed next to Charles Neal Sr, though that census by alpha order. Best guess, our Charles Neal (the younger) would seem to be a son of Charles Neal Sr., but more research is needed. Also, it could be that this Charles Sr was the son of Hugh Neal. SO, when you responded stating that our Charles Neal (the younger) was son of Charles Neal Sr, I was very excited and hoping that you could share any documentation that you might have connecting these two Charles Neals as father and son.

As you know, our Neals and Davenports, among others, migrated to Giles CO TN. I am especially interested in the Pitts family. Allen Pitts marr a d/o our Charles Neal (the younger). It seems that this Allen Pitts was bro/o Charles Pitts, that both of these Pitt boys were of Newberry CO, SC, prior to arriving in Giles CO TN. This Charles Pitts married into my Ransom H Wells family.

I have quite a bit of research on the descendants of our Charles Neal and Jemima Davenport. Also information on the Davenports, and willing to share all.

Looking forward to your response,
Debra

BTW---> Hugh, in his will, apparently used the "ONeall" variant. The land record lists ONeil (I have not pulled the originals)
From my 'Quick NOTEs"...
