There was a James Campbell whose will was dated 31 Jan 1805, York County, South Carolina. He names certain of his children in his will including sons John, Andrew, & Samuel Campbell and daughters Janet Campbell & Frances Dunwoody. This family is primarily buried in Bethel Presbyterian Churchyard, near Clover, York Co., SC. I think there may have been other Campbell children, possibly deceased before their father James Campbell. I am interested in whether there was a daughter who married a Garison. James' son John Campbell 1770-1813 married my several times removed great-aunt Sarah Garison 1777-1840 (both buried Bethel). The loose estate papers for the 1813 administration of John Campbell's estate contain a document that has me puzzled. A renunciation by the heirs of John Campbell, deceased, that is signed by John's siblings, of all their rights in John's estate in favor of Veldure N. [Valdaura Norris] Garison. But why? Was Valdaura's mother a Campbell? Was she John's sister? That V.N. Garison was Sarah (Garison) Campbell's nephew hardly seems a reason for John's siblings to relinquish their claims to V.N. Unless V.N. was also John's nephew? This document is also signed by James Garison Senr. who was the father of V.N. Garison. James Garison Sr. was married to Ann Alexander by 1806 and had one child by Ann at that time according to a deed record. James Garison Senr. was a brother of Sarah (Garison) Campbell, John Campbell's widow. Sarah later made her nephew V.N. Garison her heir when she wrote her own will in 1833. I am descended from three other siblings of Sarah and James Garison. My interest in the Campbells is secondary to my interest in the Garisons. Have done almost no research on Campbell families at this point. I do not know the name of James Campbell's wife. Notify Administrator about this message?
