Hi, I am trying to identify with certainty the lineage of Jane Prather (b. abt 1820 {per 1870 Bullocks Creek, York County, SC census}) who married William Kidd of VA, KY, TN, SC, and NC (in that order according to census records). I have a line sent to me that goes from Jane to Phillip Prather of York County, SC to Thomas Henry Prather of Rowan County, NC and his first wife, Eleanor Gaither. This would be a very sensible line except for the problems pointed out to me by a cousin: 1. As yet, no primary source material has come to light for this link. Is there an oral family tradition? 2. Jane consistently lists herself and her father as being born in VA, while in 1880 she says her mother was born in SC or NC...Jane would probably have been born in SC instead of VA. 3. Phillip is never listed as a child T.H. Prather in most listings (although the children from the first marriage are not always consistent). The pros for this link are: 1. Jane and husband William settle in York County, SC between 1860-1870...this is where their children put down roots...it seems to me odd for them to move east during or just after wartime unless they had some family roots there. 2. One of TH Prather's younger children settled in this area in the antebellum period, so the family does have a documented presence. Can anyone help sort out this mess and prove which Prather family Jane fits into? Larry Notify Administrator about this message?
