We may have something here. I am especially intrigued by the reference to Verlender. I would like to see any information you have on that.
My C. E. Naylor was born abt 1882 and died abt 1939, so I don't think he is the same as yours. However, my C. E. had an uncle who was also C. E.
My C. E. was the son of Franklin Pierce Naylor, who was the son of James George Naylor. James George Naylor also had a son, Charles E. Naylor, which makes him Franklin's brother and my C.E.'s uncle. I have James George and his family listed in the 1880 Census. Charles E. is listed as 18 which would make his birthdate abt 1862, not 1850, so it may not be the same Charles E.
I also have James G. in the 1850 Census, but he only has two daughters at that point.
