To those interested:
While I am trying to discover when the Scaggs came into the area. I recently came across these names:
Pinkney Scaggs (I know that in Sept., Oct., of 1897 He was on the Grand Jury) I also came across an
Isaac Scaggs and a Clinton Scaggs and a Clinton W. Scaggs. I was looking through The Laurel Leader circa 1897.
My Mom tells me that she knew of Isaac Scaggs and that he is probably related to us, somehow or other. Pinkney is probably the father of Isaac and the grandfather of Clinton, but I haven't found any confirmation yet.
My Mom's maiden name is Welsh, her Father's mother's maiden name was Scaggs. Her full name was Dora Nancy Scaggs and her parents were Charles Scaggs and Rhoda Dobbs. I am pretty sure that Charles had a brother Robert Edward Scaggs who was married to Ann Peters. He might have had a great many brothers, but I can't seem to find any information about their parents.
According to Family legend the Scaggs family came from around Wheeling,( West Virginia ) about the time of the end of the Civil War. They settled in what is now Scaggsville, Md., Laurel, Md., Savage, Md. and Beltsville, Md.. If you are looking at a map of Maryland, these towns are located in the northern part of Prince George's county, and the south eastern part of Howard County. (Right in the middle of the state!)
If anybody has any information on Scaggs from This location I would appreciate it, a lot!
