This is an update: Recently I came across the information that I had been searching for. I now know who the parents of Charles and Robert Scaggs. I also came across information on their siblings;too!
I found this info quite by accident, as I was running down another ancestor. I was looking in : Burtonsville Heritage - Geneologically Speaking by Mary Lord (I think) But the book is found at the Fairland Library in Burtonsville. The book is kept behind the librarian's island, it can be used for research but can't be checked out.
The information on Alfred Scaggs -m- Mary Ann Hyatt Duvall is found on page 244. The author states that she found the infomation about the children can be found in the Anne Arundel Co., Md. records. (this is probably because the children were all born before 1850, when Howard Co., was officially formed.)
Alfred and Mary Ann had 8 children. As I am decsended from Charles D. Scaggs and Rhoda Dobbs through their daughter's marriage to Lemuel Welsh I know his birth date (b.1827-d.1898). I believe that he was the oldest son. So the children were: Charles, Watt, Robert, George, Isaac, Ann, Elizabeth and Caroline.
So Charles -m- Rhoda Dobbs (Of West Virginia), Watt fought in the Civil War and he is the only one not listed as married. Robert -m- Ann Peters, George -m- Sally Harding, Isaac -m- Georginna Choate, Ann -m- George Pearl, Elizabeth -m- John Turner and Caroline -m- Richard Burton. (The town of Burtonsville is named after the Burton's.)
