Hi Stephen, I agree with you that Zachariah is only a possiblity, I think also his father may have been John Skaggs/Scaggs, and he was a brother to Zachariah. By the way, if he was the son of Zachariah, it was not the Zachariah that was married to Nancy Wilcox. The Zachariah in Russell County, Va. that was father of Jeremiah Scaggs that married Hannah Lester, died in 1818 in Russell County, Va. It is a matter of record. The Zachariah that married Nancy Wilcox, married Nancy in 1822 in Barren County, Ky. and he was a totally different man. The confusing part is that the father of Jeremiah Scaggs, was also married to a woman named Anne or Nancy (both names appeared on one deed). An Anne settled Zachariah's estate. If people will check out the records and not on-line trees, it is easy to see. Another confusing part is both Zachariah's had fathers named John, and sons named John. Those Skaggs people are hard to straighten out, they loved the same names. There are many ties of Old Peter Skaggs to the Lester family. William Lester signed Old Peter's marriage bond. Rachel Scaggs, daughter of Ruth Bishop and possibly John Scaggs, was married to William Lester. John Drake made bond for Peter in a Russell County Lawsuit, he was married to one of Abner Lester's daughters, and a sister to Williams Lester and Hannah Lester that married Jeremiah Scaggs.
