Marilyn,
After reviewing your message I can offer the following. The clearest way I can comment and connect is to insert what I've learned into what you've posted.Below I've inserted a * to mark my additions to your posting.

One of the records I have is in Cherokee Blood #983 under the name of Amanda P. Scales
* Amanda Patience Morgan was the first wife of Joseph Absalom (Joab) Scales. I have lots of info on Joab.Let me know what you'd like to see.Joab's 2nd wife was Rose Tally. These two are in my direct line.I have record of Amanda Patience Morgan, but not a lot of detail.I do show a child of Amanda and Joab names Colbert Scales, who died about the age of 4.I can trace Joab's line back 4 more generations.

Another record that I forgot to note where I found it has the following on page 47
Mary Scales-has 1 male under 10; 2 females under 10; 3 male slaves and 1 female slave. Note says Arr. May 16, 1834 - Mary Scales died on the way. Joseph Coody is listed above her and W.S. Coody is listed below. Joseph Coody and W.S. Coody arr. May 16 also.
On page 32 of the same listings it states that:
N. D. (Nicholas Dalton) and Mary Scales had one male under 10; 3 females under 10; 1 female under 25; 3 male slaves; 1 female slave. Residence was Rossville, GA
* Nicholas Dalton Scales and Mary Coodey were the parents of Joab.Again I have good data on them and their lineage.

I don't know if any of this information is new information to you.
*Peter Joseph Scales, b. 1862, d. 1896 was a child of Joab and Rose Tally. So, this is not your Peter Scales.
If you have seen the the 1830 or 1840 census for your Joab Scales would you let me know how many sons are listed and if all of them are accounted for.
* Joab was born 1832, so THIS Joab would not show in these census'.
I am still trying to find my Peter Scales who was born around 1825 in NC. He married a Mary Martha Wright in Coffee County, TN in Nov of 1857.
* The town of Madison, Rockingham County, NC mentions Randal Duke Scales, and his father Peter Scales. The town of Madison was chartered in 1815.This is not your Peter but may be a useful line to check out.
We were always told that Mary Martha Wright was the daughter of WIlliam Wright, who was born in TN, and they were full-blooded Cherokee Indian. I have found WIlliam Wright's on the rolls but have not found her name listed with him. I would appreciate any help I can get from anyone researching the Scales and Wright lines.

In closing I have considerable data on the Trail of Tears Cherokee and the beginnings of the Cherokee Nation in what is now Oklahoma. There are MANY Wright's mentioned in History of the Cherokee Indians by Emmet Starr. This, for me has been the best book on my Cherokee genealogy. My Scales' roots go back to NC, VA and a little TN, as this is where the Cherokee tribe (East) was based.
All the Best,
Andy Scales
