I have recently been looking at a micro film of the none-conformist register for the Salam
Chapel Woolwich Kent England for the period 1792 - 1837, since the IGI shows a John
Bowman Scammell baptised there. I was seeking further details.
Over the period 1790 - 1830 I came across a number of entries that could answer your query.
I found theuse of the surname Scammell,as a given name, in all the cases the parents were
the same. The parents were James MISKIN and Sarah HUTCHINSON.In one entry James
himself was entered as James Scammell MISKIN.Not only was the surname Scammell used
by this couple for their children, they also used Bowman and Hutchinson as given names.
An example was;James Scammell baptised 31 January 1819 of the Parish of St Mary
Woolwich, born 18 December 1818.The son of James MISKIN and Sarah HUTCHINSON.
The father was stated to be a foreman in the Woolwich Arsenal.
In the 1881 Census (CD ROM versionRG11/0747/45/16) James S MISKIN born 1819
Woolwich is shown with his large family, amongst the children is a son Jamesborn circa
1866 in Plumstead
Hope this is of use.
